Choosing your hosting
Moroccan VPS or international cloud: the honest comparison
Moroccan host, major international cloud or something in between: payment, invoicing, data location, price and support compared, so you can make an informed choice.
Published on
To host a site or an application from Morocco, three families of offers compete: traditional Moroccan hosts, the big international clouds (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, OVHcloud…) and in-between offers such as QuantylCloud. None wins on every criterion. This guide compares them honestly, including where we are not the best.
The comparison in one table
| Criterion | Moroccan host | International cloud | QuantylCloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment | Moroccan card or transfer, in dirhams | International card, in foreign currency | Moroccan card or transfer, in dirhams |
| Invoice | Moroccan, with VAT | Foreign, without Moroccan VAT | Moroccan, with VAT |
| Commitment | Often annual | None, usage-based billing | None, hourly with a monthly cap |
| Setup | Sometimes on quote | A few minutes | A few minutes |
| Servers | In Morocco at some hosts | In Europe, the United States, Asia… | Outside Morocco, location to be published soon |
| Price | Varies | The lowest on the market | In between |
| Support | French, sometimes by phone | English, by ticket | French, email and WhatsApp |
Where the international cloud wins
Price. For an equal configuration, a big European cloud sells a VPS far cheaper than any reseller, ourselves included. If you already pay in euros or dollars without difficulty and no accounting constraint gets in the way, it is a solid option.
The catalog. Managed databases, object storage, private networks, dozens of regions around the world: the big clouds offer services that a local player cannot match.
Where it gets difficult from Morocco
- Payment. You need a card enabled for payments abroad, and purchases in foreign currency are limited by an annual allowance. Every payment carries currency conversion fees and a bank commission, and the amount in dirhams moves with the exchange rate.
- The invoice. A foreign invoice, without Moroccan VAT, complicates a company's accounting: VAT to be self-assessed, sometimes a withholding tax on services from non-residents. Go over it with your accountant before choosing.
- Support. In English, by ticket, and often paid beyond the bare minimum.
Where the Moroccan host wins
Data location. Some Moroccan hosts have servers in Morocco, with Moroccan IP addresses. If your data must stay there, or if every millisecond counts for a Moroccan audience, this is the decisive argument. Law 09-08 governs the transfer of personal data outside Morocco, under the supervision of the CNDP: check what applies to your activity.
In return, the traditional Moroccan offer is often sold by the year, paid in advance, sometimes on quote, with a setup that is not always immediate.
And QuantylCloud, in all this?
We took what each of them lacks: the self-service and hourly billing of an international cloud, with the payment in dirhams, the Moroccan invoice and the French-language support of a local host.
What we are not:
- the cheapest: a big European cloud is still cheaper for an equal configuration;
- a host in Morocco: our servers are outside Morocco, and their exact location will be published as soon as it is settled. If your data must stay in Morocco, we are not the right answer today.
How to choose
- Your data must stay in Morocco, or your audience demands the lowest possible latency: a Moroccan host with servers in Morocco.
- You pay in foreign currency without difficulty and look for the lowest price or a specific managed service: a big international cloud.
- You want to pay in dirhams, with a Moroccan invoice, with no commitment, and a server ready in a few minutes: this is exactly what QuantylCloud exists for. To get started, follow our guide Create a VPS in Morocco, and compare the billing models in Hourly or annual hosting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for AWS, Google Cloud or Hetzner with a Moroccan card?
Yes, if the card is enabled for payments abroad, within the annual foreign-currency allowance, and with currency conversion fees and a bank commission on every payment.
Is a foreign VPS a problem under Law 09-08?
Law 09-08 governs the transfer of personal data outside Morocco, under the supervision of the CNDP. This applies to any server outside Morocco, QuantylCloud's included: check what applies to your activity.
Are QuantylCloud's servers in Morocco?
No. QuantylCloud is a Moroccan company that bills in dirhams, but its servers are hosted outside Morocco. If your data must stay there, choose a host with servers in Morocco.
Why not simply take the cheapest cloud?
It is a good choice if you pay in foreign currency without difficulty and a foreign invoice does not trouble your accounting. Otherwise, conversion fees, the allowance and the VAT to self-assess narrow the price gap.
